Dr. Roemer’s Approach as a Behavioral Psychologist

Dr. Roemer strives to create a meaningful and collaborative partnership with her clients as well as customizing a comprehensive treatment plan to meet the specific needs and goals of each individual and family.  Dr. Roemer has a solid understanding of the unique challenges and necessary factors needed to create effective and significant change.  Dr. Roemer’s broad training and clinical expertise allows her to incorporate a range of scientifically proven techniques and adapt treatment to address evolving needs for individuals and families. Dr. Roemer understands that anxiety, OCD, and related disorders effect each individual and family differently so the degree of family involvement in treatment varies.  In circumstances where a loved one is not ready or unwilling to participate in treatment, Dr. Roemer regularly works with parents and families to help them learn different ways to interact with their loved ones that promotes healthy connection and reduces their involvement in their loved one’s symptoms.  Dr. Roemer also considers other contextual factors and systems that can support treatment when needed. For instance, Dr. Roemer often works with the educational system and helps families navigate school-based supports and decisions that will promote treatment goals and build greater emotional resiliency and independence.  Additionally, Dr. Roemer regularly collaborates with other healthcare providers that are part of her clients’ clinical care team, such as psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and general physicians, to coordinate care.
